Would wearing lipgloss cause me to lose my natural lip color?

I want to try it. I've been wearing those gloss that's *transparent* to keep my lips hydrated because it becomes really dry easily. Now i want to try those lipgloss that actually has colors in it (pink/red/peach etc.) .. The problem is, i heard that it'll cause you to lose you natural lip color.. why is that so?
