Thin lines on 1 day old new 23inch monitor, help please?

Hi guys, just recently bought a new 23inch Samsung monitor a day ago. Initially I couldnt use the max resolution but that seems to work fine now after installing the latest driver today. Initially I also had wavy lines kind of transparent lines going up and down which were bigger/fatter, now they are really thin lines going up and down on the top part of the monitor. Dont notice any half way or or the bottom part of the monitor, I cant see any of the lines when a darker page is opened. When I have a page opened which is black or brown I dont see it AT ALL, notice it on the whiter/brighter pages. Not really that noticeable, but you do notice it after a while. The max resolution I can get is 1920x1080 which is what I want, but if I change it to the 2nd highest resolution I can get which is 1680x1050 then the wavy lines go away pretty much completely but I dont want that resolution as its less clear,sharp, kind of blotchy looking but the wavy lines do go away. Any ideas guys please as I just bought this monitor last night. Thanks
